X5 Retail Group, the Russian retailer, has put forward former Groupe Casino CEO Christian Couvreux for a seat on the company’s board.

The company’s shareholders will vote on whether to accept Couvreux as an independent director at an EGM next month.

Couvreux, 59, spent 15 years at Casino and was chief executive of the French retailer from 1997 to 2003.

X5 chairman Hervé Defforey said: “With his proven track record and deep knowledge of the global retail industry, Christian Couvreux will bring valuable experience to X5’s supervisory board”.

Carlos Criado-Pérez Trefault will step down from the X5 board next month.
