Russian discount retailer Pyaterochka has announced full year 2005 sales figures – which grew considerably compared to 2004.


Pyaterochka’s gross banner sales grew 31% in 2005 compared to 2004 to reach US$2.084bn, while consolidated net sales reached $1.359bn, up 23% from 2004.


Net sales in St Petersburg, where the company is based, reached $708m, and Moscow stores contributed net sales of $644m.


Pyaterochka saw 12 month like-for-like sales fall 1% for the group in the full year 2005 though, with Moscow sales growing by 5% while St Petersburg like-for-like sales declined by 6%.


The company also announced that during the full year 2005, Pyaterochka opened a record 91 new stores in its core regions, 56 new stores in St Petersburg and 35 in Moscow.


Its franchise network grew rapidly last year – with 218 new Pyaterochka franchises opening in 2005, and franchise revenue at $7m.


Pyaterochka is the largest grocery retailer in Russia, with a chain of 326 company-managed stores located in the Moscow and St Petersburg areas. In addition franchisees operate 425 Pyaterochka-branded stores in the Russian regions outside of Moscow and St Petersburg, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.
