A Russian agriculture ministry official said earlier today [Wednesday] that there are still no grounds to lift the ban on imports of US poultry, because the US has still not provided all the necessary documentation.

When the ban was first implemented at the beginning of this month, Russia cited health and safety reasons when salmonella was found in several batches of imports. Nevertheless, the ban should have been lifted today.

According to the ITAR-TASS news agency however, the ban will remain in place because all the requested documentation, proving that US poultry meets Russian health standards, has not been handed over by the US officials.

The official told the news agency: “US authorities promised to provide all the necessary papers on Wednesday and it will take us several days to study and check them.”
