US-based sweet baked goods business Sara Lee Frozen Bakery has revealed the primary facility producing its Superior On Main-branded products is transitioning to a peanut- and tree nut-free environment.

The Illinois business, relaunched in its current form in 2018 after its sale by meat giant Tyson Foods to private equity firm Kohlberg & Company, said it is taking the action after receiving requests from both consumers and retail partners for nut-free products.

The unidentified facility in question produces eclairs, brownies, Madeleines and cookies, as well as everyday and seasonal iced cookies.

This is the first major production announcement for Superior on Main under the integration of this business into Sara Lee Frozen Bakery following its acquisition from Hostess Brands in August 2019.

Starting this autumn, the statement ‘Made in a Peanut & Tree Nut Free Facility’ will be added to Superior On Main ingredient labels for products made at the facility. For all other remaining Superior On Main products made at the facility, labels with the peanut- and tree nut-free facility statement will be phased in during the remainder of this year.

Curt Coolidge, general manager for in-store bakery, at Sara Lee Frozen Bakery, said: “We’re pleased that consumers looking for nut-free products will be able to safely enjoy our delicious desserts.”
