Private Scottish soup and condiments company Baxters is gearing up for its entrance onto the New Zealand market in February 2002.

David Sykes, general manager of exports for Baxters, revealed that the firm is aiming at the premium end of the grocery market, so it will not be looking to compete directly against Heinz Watties or Campbells.

The 140-year-old company is a brand leader in sales of beetroot and fruit chutneys in the UK, and hopes to garner a 10% to 15% share of the premium market in New Zealand.
