Slovenian retailer Mercator plans to take over the trade operations of Bosnian firm Dvropromet.

Mercator, itself subject to a takeover battle, has struck what it called a “strategic alliance” with Dvropromet.

The deal, which remains subject to competition clearance, will see Mercator obtain 63 stores on a long-term lease. Mercator will also buy inventories, equipment and staff. The agreement will also see the two sides “co-operate” in retail and wholesale purchasing.

“The strategic alliance is consistent with Mercator’s strategy of growth and the vision of being the largest food and home products retailer in the region of south-eastern Europe,” Mercator said yesterday (20 October).
