Spanish canned fruit company Confrusa confirmed today (26 May) that it has acquired certain assets from Halcón Foods, including a factory in Campos del Rio.

The deal, which has been endorsed by the regional government, safeguards operations at the factory, a spokesperson for the company told just-food.

“Increased capacity will enable us to grow our canning business, which is showing strong growth. We are seeing strong demand for our products as consumers look for value and health,” the spokesperson said.

With the future of the factory secure, the Federación Agroalimentaria del sindicato UGT union has called off a planned strike at the Campos del Rio plant.

In a separate deal, Confrusa also took control of Conservas Fernández, which has a plant in Calasparra.

The spokesperson declined to comment on the financial details of the transaction.
