Swedish trading house Bergendahl & Son has announced plans to start an “aggressive” drive to expand its food retailing operations with the launch of a new chain.
Bergendahl’s food operations consist of fully-owned wholesale outlets that serve independent retailers. The performance of Bergendahls Food is continuing “according to plan”, with the opening of the 31st Citygross last week, Bergendahl said.
However, the group’s board announced today (10 March) that it would now develop a new franchised chain that “combines the advantages of wholesale and retail”.
“That we decided to make a strategic investment in Food is a marker of how important that part of our business for us in the future,” said CEO Spiros Mylonopoulos.
