Sleeping under the golden arches may soon be a possibility if McDonald’s foray into the hotel business takes off.
Beleaguered by competition and falling demand for its beef burgers in Europe, McDonald’s is expanding its famous brand by opening a chain of Golden Arch Hotels in Switzerland.
The hotels, decorated in corporate colours, will offer £65-a-night rooms with the added bonus of sleeping under the famous McDonald’s M logo usually seen on top of its burger restaurants.
Two hotels near Zurich airport will open in April, but McDonald’s will be keen to see the success of its latest venture before expanding the themed hotels into other European cities.
McDonald’s have been keen to build up an alternative portfolio of beef-free businesses with expansion into Mexican restaurants in the US and the Aroma chain of coffee shops in Britain.
