Taiwan’s Consumer’s Foundation has called for the reinstatement of a ban on US beef following the discovery of beef rib fragments in a shipment of beef from Tyson Foods. The Department of Health has removed Tyson from the list of permitted importers, saying the issue is one of quality control – not food safety.

According to local reports, the consumer group does not believe this action goes far enough, accusing the department of attempting to sidestep the issue. The foundation has called on the Taiwnese Government to implement a full-scale ban on imports of beef from the US.
