The Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will enforce the labelling of certain GM products from 11 May.

The 22 products made from genetically modified sweetcorn or soy beans have to be clearly labelled as such if the GM products are among the top three ingredients by volume, and if the GM content exceeds 5%.
An announcement from the FDA’s deputy secretary-general earlier this week also banned the use of labels suggesting that a product is GM-free. Provisions for the labelling legislation were set out in an announcement from the public health ministry last year.
Companies found to be in contravention of the legislation could face fines as high as Bt30,000 (US$702,300). Manufacturers unsure of the content of their products are invited to send samples to the National Science and Technology Development Agency, Ministry of Public Health or Ministry of Agriculture for analysis.
