Tesco is to open three distribution centres in Thailand.

Tesco Lotus, which operates around 1,000 stores in Thailand, announced at the British Business Embassy Retail, Food and Drink summit in London last week that it is opening three distribution facilities in the country.

The investment builds on the progress Tesco Lotus has already made to develop retail infrastructure in Thailand, and will help the division build on its existing work with its local Thai suppliers and SMEs in the country, it said.

Tesco says the deal will also increase its employment of local people. Tesco Lotus plans to recruit “at least” 9,000 additional staff in Thailand this year, it said.

The retailer did not reveal when the facilities will be operational.
