TreeHouse Foods, the largest private-label manufacturer in the US, has appointed former Hershey executive Amit Philip as chief strategy officer.
Philip will also hold the title of senior vice president of New York-listed TreeHouse Foods, according to a statement today (9 September), which did not specify if the CSO role is a newly-created position, although just-food has contacted the company to confirm.
He was most recently vice president of analytics and insights at US-based confectionery maker Hershey where he worked from 2011 to 2018. Prior to that he was at consulting firm A.T. Kearney advising on various industries including the consumer packaged goods sector. Philip started his career at Texas-based oil giant Schlumberger.
Philip joins a firm following through on its 2020 strategy to eliminate low-margin product lines, boost profit margins and cut debt, which has entailed the recent disposal of its snacks and trail mixes business to Atlas Holdings. In May, TreeHouse sold its ready-to-eat cereals unit to peer Post Holdings, although it announced in July a delay to the deal as the US Federal Trade Commission looks into the transaction.
Steven Oakland, chief executive of TreeHouse, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Amit to TreeHouse. His experience providing holistic business intelligence, ensuring data-driven decision making and leading strategy functions to develop growth plans in a rapidly changing marketplace will be instrumental as we position our portfolio for the future.”
