German Retail chain Aldi has indicated plans to double its number of UK store openings in the coming year, compared to 2006.

The company has opened 25 stores in the UK this year, and is looking to open another 40 during 2007, reported Retail Week.

The discount chain opened its first UK city centre shop in the refurbished Manchester Arndale centre earlier this month, aimed at middle-class shoppers as well as its core customers. It has also opened a store in North Birmingham within the past month.
