Asda finance chief Judith McKenna has been named as the UK retailer’s COO.
McKenna, who has been Asda’s CFO since 2001, will take on the new role in September, Wal-Mart Stores’ UK arm said today (1 July).
She succeeds Simon King, who left Asda last month after under a year in the job. At the time of King’s departure, Asda told just-food that King had “considerable talents and retail experience” but the company “felt his impact wasn’t being realised as quickly as we hoped”.
McKenna joined Asda 15 years ago and, as COO, will lead the company’s retail operations.
Asda president and CEO Andy Clarke said: “In the last year alone, her work leading the Netto acquisition and integration programme – which is reinventing our retail future – demonstrates that she’s the natural choice for this role.”
