UK: Cadbury recalls host of Easter eggs

Cadbury Schweppes has recalled many of its Easter egg products following a labelling error that could affect people with nut allergies.

Cadbury Schweppes has recalled many of its Easter egg products following a labelling error that could affect people with nut allergies.

The confectioner, which is offering a full refund for returned products, said that the chocolate brands involved were still perfectly safe for those who are not allergic to nuts.

Cadbury spokesman Tony Bilsborough told just-food that the chocolate eggs, which included Crunchie and Milk Tray eggs, were mistakenly manufactured on a line that also makes products with nuts.

“We are working through the ramifications now, and looking at all the options,” he said.

The company was not able to put a figure on how much its latest recall would cost or how many eggs had been sold, because the products had different release dates. Cadbury’s recall of seven branded products in the UK and Ireland in June last year, due to possible contamination with salmonella, was reported to have cost the manufacturer around GBP30m (US$58.39m).

Those products recalled this time around, due to the absence of appropriate nut allergy labelling included: Cadbury’s Dairy Milk Buttons Easter Chick 185g, Creme Egg Minis 300g Box, Creme Egg Minis 58g Bag, Creme Egg Minis 160g Tube, Dairy Milk Caramel Mini Eggs 100g Bag, Dairy Milk Miniatures 100g Carton, Creme Egg Easter Egg 629g, Creme Egg Minis Eggs Easter Egg 98g, Mini Eggs Easter Egg 595g, Mini Eggs Easter Egg 190g, Dairy Milk Easter Egg 795g, Dairy Milk Fruit and Nut Easter Egg 445g, Flake Easter Egg 185g, Easter Egg Delight Mixed Eggs 492g, Easter Egg Delight 890g, Crunchie Recipe Easter Egg 230g, Dairy Milk Bubbly Easter Egg 187g, Roses Easter Egg 666g, Milk Tray Easter Egg 340g, and Creme Egg Easter Egg 560g.

Also included were the Dairy Milk Gaelic Football Easter Egg 445g, Moro Easter Egg 236g and Roses Easter Egg 187g products, available in Ireland only.

No other products are affected, Cadbury added.
