An investment worth £54m is nearing completion as UK food company Dairy Crest gets ready to open the first of two new “super dairies” this November.
Dairy Crest, which controls brands such as Clover butter and Cathedral City cheese, expects the dairies to ensure that the group enjoys long-term dominance in the liquid milk sector. They will be situated in London and Gloucester.
Earlier this week, Dairy Crest posted a fall in pre-tax profits for the last year, from £44m to £33.6m. With the completion of integration between the dairy and cheese businesses bought from Unigate in 2000, the group is confident that it will achieve £11m of cost synergies during this financial year.
