Spanish pork manufacturer Espuna has withdrawn certain batches of its chorizo sausage over concerns that the product is contaminated with salmonella, the UK’s Food Standards Agency said today (20 April).

The company has recalled Chorizo Sarta Fort/Sharf Hot in 200g packs. Products included in the recall carry lot numbers 090002, 090003, 090004 and 11 June 2009, 08 June 2009 best before dates.

The product was sold in a number of UK shops and butchers, all of which have withdrawn the affected packs and displayed notices to consumers.

Local authorities have also been informed and are working with shops to make sure affected products are removed from sale.
