UK cooked and frozen meat products manufacturer Snowbird Foods is to be sold in a management buy-out.
The former unit of food group Vion said today (5 July) joint managing directors Philip Paul and Albert McGovern, as well as sales director Roy Anderson, are to purchase the business from Karro Foods Group. Karro is the ex-Vion UK pork operation acquired through an MBO in December.
Financial details of the investment were not disclosed.
Snowbird provides products to customers including Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons, as well as companies within the travel, hospitality and leisure industries.
Originally Plumtree Foods, the company was sold to J & J Tranfield in 2007. Later that year Vion bought an interest in the firm, completing the acquisition in 2008. However, Vion decided last year to withdraw from the UK to concentrate on its Dutch and German markets.
McGovern said: “Our product standards are extremely high. We have a well-earned reputation for quality and the integrity of our products has never been questioned. It’s because of this that some of the UK’s biggest manufacturers of ready meals and sandwiches and some of the bigger brands in the leisure, hospitality and travel industries are coming to us.”
