HJ Heinz has added to its Fridge Pack beans portfolio in the UK with a new product containing less sugar and salt.

The company said Heinz Reduced Sugar and Salt Beanz will go on sale at the end of the month.

The 1kg resealable Fridge Pack was first launched last year, which Heinz claimed had been a success. The new product will contain 30% less sugar and 25% less salt than the original Fridge Pack.

Heinz Beanz marketing manager Paul White said: “Since its launch last year, the Heinz Beanz Fridge Pack has gone from strength to strength. In just eight months, it achieved a four per cent share of the bean accompaniments category, and 47% of sales have been incremental to the category. We are now looking to build on this success with our Heinz Beanz Reduced Sugar and Salt Fridge Pack, which puts a tick in all the right boxes for consumers by combining health, convenience and taste.”

White added: “We know over 20% of consumers now choose food products because of their health qualities, compared to just 11% in 1995. Building on our past experience, we therefore believe that the Heinz Reduced Sugar and Salt range will help to drive incremental growth within the category and complement the other Reduced Sugar and Salt formats in our portfolio.”
