Lantmannen, the Sweden-based conglomerate, has started production trials on a new bakery in the UK, with manufacturing set to begin in the coming weeks.
The group’s Lantmannen Unibake arm said today (7 July) that the Eastcotts, Bedford, site is part of a GBP20m (US$31.9m) investment and expansion in the UK.
The site will produce Schulstad-branded Danish pastries for the company and create some 150 jobs. The facilty will supply the company’s retail, wholesale and foodservice customers.
Søren Landtved, CEO of the UK arm of Lantmannen Unibake, said: “By bringing the production of Danish pastries to the UK, we are creating the ‘best of both worlds’ for our UK customers: authentic Danish pastry recipes, know-how and tradition, combined with new production facilities, local production and a flexible approach to innovation.”
