Fairtrade nut and snack company Liberation has launched a nut range endorsed by UK comedian Harry Hill.

Harry’s Nuts is a brand of Fairtrade salted peanuts that will be available this autumn in 50g packs.

All revenue will go back to the smallholder farmers in Africa and Latin America, the company said today (5 August). The SRP is GBP0.59 (US$1.15).

Hill, who recently returned from Malawi where he met some of the farmers who will benefit from the product, said: “I love salted peanuts myself and feel I am doing a service to snackers everywhere who want to know the farmers who grew what they are eating have been paid a fair price. I’m working with Liberation because all of its products are Fairtrade and the company is run purely to benefit the farmers and their families.”

Hill will make no money from the venture so that the majority of the revenue is returned to the smallholder farmers in Africa and Latin America.

A spokesperson for Liberation told just-food: “We are looking into line extensions as we speak, but there is nothing confirmed yet on recipes. Harry Hill has always been a strong supporter of Fairtrade (he launched the Fairtrade Mark badge back in 2002) and is a long-term friend of Liberation, so when the opportunity to co-operate came to us we got him involved.”

Hill will begin promoting Harry’s Nuts in September before starting work on his next series of Harry Hill’s TV Burp.
