From March, a typical 45g serving with 125ml of semi-skimmed milk will contain 0.5g of salt which represents 9% of an adult’s guideline daily amount.

Nestlé UK pointed out that it has been reducing salt in its UK breakfast cereals over the last ten years, and since 1998 has reduced salt by nearly 30%. One quarter of all Nestlé cereals contain no added salt, the company said.

“We’re very much aware of how important a nutritious breakfast is for health and well-being,” said Nestlé nutritionist Dr Clare Chapman. “As part of our ongoing commitment, we’re continually trying to make all of our cereals even healthier. This latest salt reformulation for Shreddies demonstrates that commitment.”
