UK motorway service area operator Moto, part of international foodservice firm Compass Group, has announced it is to offer self-heating meals as part of its food-on-the-go range.

The Hotcan range automatically heats up when the can is opened and retains its heat for up to 45 minutes. Consumers will have a choice of five varieties: all day breakfast, sausage ‘n wedges, vegetable chilli, pasta with spicy meatballs and tuna twists, each costing £2.99 (US$5.52).

“Today’s travellers want hot food on the go and we have no doubt that this innovative offer will prove to be very popular, especially with people to whom time is precious, such as truckers and delivery drivers. We have already trialled it at some of our sites and it was well received, giving us the confidence for a full roll-out across the entire estate of 32 service areas,” said Jon Shore, head of retail at Moto.
