Marks and Spencer has announced that it will purchase GreenPalm certificates to cover its entire palm oil usage.
The certificates, which support the production of certified sustainable palm oil, will be used in almost 1,000 M&S food, home and beauty products.
The move is part of M&S’s commitment to use only sustainable palm oil by 2015.
Richard Gillies, director of Plan A, M&S’s sustainability programme, said: “Sustainable palm oil production is central to our commitment to protect the world’s resources so that we can reduce the impact of CO2 emissions linked to deforestation.”
Gillies said that the company’s “joined-up approach” meant that M&S is also working with the WWF to rehabilitate over 120 acres of forest in Borneo.
