The largest organic farming centre in Britain was angered this week by the revelation that it could become infected with GE material from a government-funded GE crop trial due to be planted 3km away next month.

Based near Coventry, the Henry Doubleday Research Association argues that any contamination from the government trial of 10ha of GM maize, will effectively invalidate its research.

Under the patronage of Prince Charles and with funding from the Ministry of Agriculture, the association has conducted extensive research into organic farming. It says that if the GM trials go ahead so close by, then hundreds of thousands of pounds of tax payers’ money will be wasted.
