UK food manufacturer Premier Foods announced today (19 January) that it intends to restructure its UK manufacturing facilities.

Premier has proposed the closure of its production facilities in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, and Ashford, Kent. It intends to expand operations at its three other UK manufacturing sites.

The company has commenced the consultation process at its King’s Lynn and Ashford factories. It plans to close the King’s Lynn factory by December 2007 and the Ashford Factory by May 2008.

Premier said it expects to finalise plans in the early spring. The savings and costs of the restructuring are in-line with those announced when Premier acquired Campbell’s UK.

Premier also announced the acquisition of Chivers Ireland from its management. Chivers, which distributes Premier products in the Republic of Ireland, will be combined with the existing operations of Premier Foods Ireland, which was formed after the acquisition of Campbell’s Ireland.
