UK supermarket chain J Sainsbury has said it is to add the equivalent of 10,000 part-time jobs in a bid to reduce peak-time queues at checkouts in its stores.

The news of added jobs was countered, however, by a report in the Sunday Times that the chain was considering cutting 650 jobs at its Holborn headquarters.

A spokeswoman for Sainsbury’s confirmed that a review of head office staffing levels was underway but added that reports on the level of job cuts or the time-frame were pure speculation.
