Retail giant Tesco is to launch its first transactional mobile phone application for the UK market.

Tesco said today (5 August) that the application will launch on Nokia’s Ovi Store and allows Tesco.com members to browse a full store of items and update their shopping lists, as well as purchase.

“We are always looking for new ways to appeal to customers and make shopping simpler,” a spokesperson for Tesco said. “Following the success of our three existing mobile apps, we have been working on developing a grocery app which will allow customers to shop from their phone easily and conveniently.

“We are working closely with Nokia to make this available as soon as possible in their Ovi store, with apps available on other products planned for the future,” the spokesperson added.
