According to reports in the UK press, Tesco has launched an investigation that a family found a scorpion in a bag of grapes bought at a Tesco store.

Michelle Smith and her two sons saw the motionless creature. “I’m short-sighted and thought it was dead until I prodded it and its tail and stinger rose in attack,” she told the Independent newspaper.

Michelle, from Penarth, South Wales, said that the scorpion came from a bag of Mexican grapes. David Smith, her husband, captured the creature in a lunchbox.

Tesco apologised for any distress.
