Tesco today (7 July) announced that it will exclusively sell Bio-Synergy’s dessert range.
The retailer said that it will launch what it described as the “least calorific” dessert available in the UK tomorrow.
The caramel-flavoured Skinny Mousse dessert has 60 calories and the retailer said contains a natural product that is “said to help suppress sugar cravings”. Tesco will also sell a chocolate variety, which contains 90 calories. Bio-Synergy announced the launch of the Skinny Mousse range at the end of June.
Tesco desserts buyer Emma Pettitt said: “We believe that these two Skinny Mousse desserts will be the lowest calorie, commercially-made treats available across the UK. Apart from giving the figure-conscious a guilt free treat the dessert is also believed to be the first food to contain a mineral that helps reduce sugar cravings.”
Until the launch of the Skinny Mousse range, the commercially-made dessert with the fewest calories was believed to be Weight Watchers Rich Chocolate Dessert, which contains 80 calories, Tesco noted.
The retailer said that, in the last year, UK demand for diet desserts had grown by 31% to create a market worth GBP27m (US$43.1m).

By GlobalDataThe Skinny Mousse desserts contain the mineral chromium, which Tesco said has been the subject of numerous studies and clinical trials and has been approved by the European Food Safety Authority as a food supplement. Chromium has been found to regulate blood sugar levels, which in turn reduces cravings for sweet foods, Tesco explained.
Both Skinny Mousse desserts will be sold in twin packs costing GBP1.49 and will be available in the dairy aisle.
