UK retail group John Lewis Partnership, which operates supermarket chain Waitrose, has said sales rose 5.3% in the 26 weeks to 31 July compared to the year-ago period.

Sales at Waitrose rose 6.4% in the 26-week period compared to the same period of last year, reported Dow Jones International News. John Lewis said that in the week to 31 July sales at Waitrose rose 13.8% year-on-year, boosted by the hotter weather, which lifted sales of barbecue foods and chilled salads.

John Lewis operates 25 department stores and more than 130 Waitrose supermarkets.
