Warburtons invested GBP2.5m (US$3.9m) in building a dedicated bakery to produce its gluten-free range alongside its facility in Newburn, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
The UK baker, which yesterday (29 November) revealed plans to launch a gluten-free range in January, said the bakery will employ up to nine new staff during the initial start-up phase.
However, the team at the bakery will expand this to 20 during the first six months.
A spokesperson for the company said: “The new dedicated gluten-free bakery boasts the standard bread making equipment such as mixers, a prover, an oven-cooler and a packaging facility. Alongside this there is also raw material store and dispatch. The site also includes new pieces, which is depositing equipment.”
