Fruit heavyweight Unifrutti has acquired Peruvian peer Bomarea and the local operations of AvoAmerica for undisclosed sums.

Unifrutti has snapped up Bomarea and AvoAmerica Peru from the US-based agribusiness investment company Solum Partners and the fresh fruit and vegetables company Alpine Fresh, also based in the US.

Bomarea specialises in blueberry production while AvoAmerica Peru focuses on avocados.

The companies together own around 2,000 hectares of blueberry and avocado plantations.

Unifrutti said the transactions add “premium blueberries and avocados” to its portfolio, as well as increase its access to markets including the US and China.

The deals come less than two months after Unifrutti bought Verfrut, a Chile-based fruit supplier and exporter.
