The distribution and expertise of Jack Link’s Beef Jerky were key considerations in the decision of JBS to form a meat snacks venture with the US firm, the Brazilian meat giant said today (14 September).

JBS and Jack Link’s are to join forces to produce meat snacks from two of the Brazilian group’s domestic production sites.

A spokesman for JBS told just-food that Jack Link’s competence in the meat snacks business was one of a number of reasons why the company decided to join forces with the beef jerky processor.

“We felt that we needed Jack Link’s not only because of their market outreach and expertise but also because of their ability to produce a market friendly product at very competitive costs. That is why we did the JV,” the spokesman said.

The venture will sell meat snacks “primarily” in the US, the spokesman explained, although he said there was “a growing market globally”. He added: “Meat snacks enjoyed “phenomenal growth” in the last decade.”
