The US government’s Food Pyramid and manufacturers’ food labels are helping Americans change their eating habits.
A Wall Street Journal poll shows that 40% of adults use them to follow healthier diets. Of those reading labels, 39% do so primarily for eating a balanced, nutritious diet.
Of those polled 63% said that they read labels to effectively manage a medical condition. Adults are most likely to look for information regarding fat (83%) for themselves, but for sugar content when shopping for their children.
