Arla Foods has received approval to begin exporting kosher dairy products into the US. The products will be distributed by Gold Frost, the US subsidiary of Israel’s G. Willi-Food.

Shipment will begin when Gold Frost has produced labels that comply with USDA requirements, the company said.

US authorities have granted approval for the import of kosher Lurpak butter, as well as kosher Brie and Camembert cheeses. These products will be produced at Arla’s factory in Denmark.

Arla already imports non-kosher Lurpak butter and Brie and Camembert cheeses into the US.

Zwi Williger, president and COO of Willi-Food said: “The approval of the initial import license for these products is an important first step in our strategy to penetrate the US kosher market. We believe that there is a substantial opportunity for our line of kosher dairy products in the US. We believe that Lurpak butter is a key product for consumers, and we look forward to receiving approvals for other, more significant kosher cheese products such as Fetina, our version of Feta cheese. We intend to complete final labelling requirements for compliance with USDA regulations in the next few months in order to begin shipping.”
