Campbell Soup Co. is looking to “accelerate” NPD in baking and snacking with a new R&D site in the US.

The US$30m development in Connecticut opened yesterday (12 September). The company said it wanted to “drive continued innovation and growth” from its baking and snacking operations, including Pepperidge Farm in the US and Arnott’s in Australia.

Sales from Campbell’s baking and snacking business increased 2% in the year to 29 July. Higher costs, promotions and advertising spending meant operating earnings fell 11% to $315m.
