Cargill has recalled over 29,000 pounds of ground beef in the US over fears it would be contaminated with salmonella.

The company said the recall of 29,339lbs of beef in the north-east of the country was initiated as a result of its own investigations and after information from government health officials.

It emphasised the strain of salmonella was “naturally and randomly occurring”.

Cargill is still investigating the source of contamination.
