The US has decided to drop its appeal against a WTO ruling that criticised Washington’s move to restrict imports of poultry from China on safety grounds.

At a meeting of the WTO’s dispute settlement body yesterday (25 October), the US acquiesced to a ruling published last month that said Washington’s restrictions on poultry products contravened trade rules.

The US had already dropped the measures that had caused China to seek ask the WTO to investigate. The US Congress had sought to prevent the country’s authorities from processing imports of chicken from China but the WTO said Washington had withdrawn on the measure.
