US chocolate firm Ghirardelli has launched a slew of additions to its Intense Dark range in a bid to tap into growing local demand for dark chocolate.
The company has added three flavours – Midnight Reverie, Evening Dream and Mint Bliss – to the line.
Ghirardelli pointed to research from analysts Mintel that claims the dark chocolate category grew by 49% between 2003 and 2006, with sales reaching almost US$1.2bn last year.
“The expansion of the Intense Dark line will provide a complete range of high cacao percentage dark chocolate products from the milder, more rounded 60% Evening Dream to the ultimately intense 86% Midnight Reverie,” said Fabrizio Parini, senior vice president of marketing for Ghirardelli.
The bars are priced at around $2.99.
