A fire that broke out at a Tyson Foods poultry production plans in Virginia, caused only “limited” damage, the US meat group has said.
The fire originated in the boiler room of the poultry site in Glen Allen and was discovered at 2.30am yesterday (12 September) during a sanitation shift, a spokesperson for Tyson told just-food. The plant was not in operation at the time, the spokesperson added.
“There were about 80 people in the facility at the time. They immediately evacuated and no one was hurt. Thanks to the quick response of local firefighters the fire was put out quickly and the damage was limited.”
Disruption to production was also minimal. “The first shift of production was delayed two hours this morning.”
