The US Department of Agriculture is helping small producers meet voluntary organic programme standards with US$1m in grants.

The scheme provides cost-share assistance to organic crop and livestock producers who have been certified by a USDA accredited certifying agent and want to meet uniform standards set by the National Organic Programme.

Funds will be allocated to individual states based on their proportion of organic producers. State governments in turn, will then reimburse eligible producers for up to 75% of their organic certification costs, up to a maximum of US$500 per producer.
