US confectioner Ferrara Candy Co. has is downsizing its production plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to “optimise efficiency”.

A spokesperson told just-food Ferrara plans to transfer production of its chocolate and maple nut products at the Jersey Pike plant in Chattanooga to other company-owned facilities at the end of the week (27 June).

“Ferrara Candy Company continuously evaluates ways to enhance performance and optimise efficiency to ensure success in today’s marketplace. Consistent with this effort, the company will transfer the manufacturing of its chocolate and maple nut goodies products from Jersey Pike to its Forest Park and Bellwood facilities, respectively,” the spokesperson revealed.

He said the move would impact “some positions” at the Jersey Pike site. Local reports suggest that around 95 jobs will be lost at the facility.
