Flowers Foods has inked a deal that provides Indiana-based baker Aunt Millie’s Bakeries the license to produce and market Wonder and Home Pride breads in parts of the Midwest.

The agreement will see Aunt Millie’s Bakeries manufacture and sell the products in north-western Indiana, northern Illinois – including Chicago – and southern Wisconsin.

Flowers said the deal would see the brands return to shelves in these markets in the “near future”. Distribution of Home Pride and Wonder breads stopped in these areas in 2012. Flowers acquired the Wonder and Home Pride brands, along with Merita and Butternut, when Hostess Brands assets were auctioned off last year.

Allen Shiver, Flowers president and CEO, said: “We’re excited about partnering with Aunt Millie’s, which produces quality fresh bakery foods and has a great distribution network. This agreement allows us to bring these well-known and well-loved bread brands, baked with the same recipes, back to consumers in this part of the Midwest.”

Last September, Flowers reintroduced the former Hostess brands to its direct-store-delivery market, which reaches around 79% of the US population in the East, South, Southwest, and California.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
