Ingredients group Martek Biosciences Corp. has extended a deal to supply ARA for Danone‘s infant-formula products.

The new agreement runs until the end of 2014 and extends the current tie-up by three years.

Martek said “in most cases” it would also supply DHA to Danone but that the French food giant would continue to use non-microbial DHA sources from time to time.

Martek CEO Steve Dubin called the new deal “an important milestone” for the business.

“This agreement illustrates that Martek’s trusted high quality nutritional products, patent position, production capacity, strong research and science base, and long history of experience in DHA and ARA manufacturing and technology will continue to provide us a meaningful competitive advantage in the marketplace,” Dubin said.
