US manufacturer General Mills has committed to switching some one million of its eggs to cage-free, according to the US Humane Society.
The Humane Society said yesterday (20 April) that General Mills, which owns the Pillsbury, and Betty Crocker brands, has already committed to moving all the egg in its Haagen-Dazs ice cream line in Europe to cage-free eggs.
“General Mills and the food manufacturing industry are helping the push to move the egg industry away from confining hens in cruel and inhumane cages,” said Josh Balk, director of corporate policy for The Humane Society’s’ factory farming campaign. “The Humane Society of the United States applauds General Mills for improving the lives of animals with this important step.”
