Mead Johnson Nutrition has appointed Kasper Jakobsen, the head of its operations in the Americas, to the newly-created position of chief operating officer.

Jakobsen, who will begin in his new role in January, will head up the US infant formula company’s global operating committee and adopt overall responsibility for driving its operational performance.

President and CEO Steve Golsby said: “Kasper has the right combination of diverse international experience and leadership skills to drive effective strategy execution and strong results across our global business.”

Jakobsen joined the company in 1998 and has been leading its businesses across North America and Latin America since 2009. Prior to joining Mead Johnson, he held a number of marketing roles at Unilever over a decade.

The company has also appointed Charles Urbain in the new role of senior vice president for stakeholder relations and chief development officer. Previously he was president for Asia and Europe.

Meanwhile, Pete Leemputte has been named executive vice president and chief financial officer.
