US c-store retailer The Pantry has named Dennis Hatchell, chairman of the holding company behind Lowe’s Food Stores, as its new president and CEO.

Hatchell, 62, will take the role on 5 March. He replaces Terry Marks, who left The Pantry to become chief executive restaurant chain Hooters.

“The Pantry is one of the largest retailers in the convenience store industry and has tremendous potential to grow and continue to be a dominant leader in its markets,” Hatchell said. He was named vice chairman of Alex Lee, the holding company behind firms including Lowe’s Food Stores last year. Hatchell has spent almost four decades working in the grocery sector.

Edwin Holman, who had been The Pantry’s interim CEO since October after Marks’ departure, will stay with the retailer as chairman.
