The Produce Marketing Association (PMA) has attacked what it views as the media bias towards organic produce, dismissing suggestions that the consumption of conventionally grown fresh produce may be detrimental to your health.

In support of conventionally grown fresh produce, Kathy Means, vice president of Government Relations of PMA, cites “the overwhelming evidence from government, scientific and health authorities that produce is safe and that the health benefits of frequent and regular consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables far outweigh any hypothetical risk.”

Reports that are critical of the use of pesticides “may frighten consumers away from the foods they should enjoy more frequently. Fresh produce is safe for adults and children. Organic and conventionally grown produce are equally safe, nutritious and tasty,” Means said.
